eeeel replied to your post: reading an article about sexism in game of…

lol. i would start naming strong female characters in got but then i’d just end up naming them all. it’s articles like this that make feminism/patriarchy theory a joke, you know? sad times.

Right? Like, I understand where they’re coming from, and I’m not saying there aren’t problems, but to simplify GoT to that degree shows a lack of understanding in….every aspect of GoT, frankly. Every female character is not just strong but is actively challenging things, even Catelyn, the traditional wife/mother, is constantly, constantly trying to temper Robb and giving him necessary and insightful wisdom, and frequently shows distaste with the way she experiences the world. There’s literally no woman in GoT who is like “Yes, this patriachal society is working for me,” the  very presence of so many women in the story kind of negates the whole argument.

like in. in the process of critiquing it for being too patriarchal it’s trivializing the women in the series, like. yes, it’s patriarchal, yes, that sucks, no, women are not just standing by and putting up with it????????????

i’m not going to say, i’m not saying that game of thrones doesn’t do grossly sexist things, i’m open to the criticism about how he’s built this heavily patriarchal society, sure—

but i don’t like the idea that’s presented here that just because it’s fantasy and you can do anything, it was wrong to create a patriarchal society based on “”“historical themes”“”, and that it was wrong to create powerful women working within that structure [and destroying and manipulating it from the inside. cersei. sansa. pls.] i’m sure he could have handled writing it otherwise, but i REALLY LIKE seeing these ladies challenge their world and take control of it, there is not a single lady in game of thrones i dont love the hell out of because they ALL. all react against their patriarchal society; just because they aren’t (can’t) doing big flashy things doesnt mean they aren’t challenging the ideas of patriarchy i

i hope im not making a fool of myself im just… ??? yes i would like a game of thrones where daenerys rules the seven kingdoms and arya is a warrior princess and etc etc etc but like. do you really think that’s not gonna happen at the end? can u really look at olenna and margaery tyrell and think the ladies aren’t gonna crush this thing in the end?????
